A PICTURE FRAME SHOP IN BERKELEY
We will be closing the business at the end of April 2021. I began framing in 1960 and have had my shop since 1974. It is time for me to retire and pursue other interests.
Storey Framing was founded in 1974. Our commitment is to framing which enhances the art and ensures its preservation into the future. In order to achieve these results, we employ carefully considered aesthetic decisions with the highest archival framing practices.
We serve the art which we are framing. Current owners of important artworks or other valuable documents should be caretakers of these objects. Our job as framers is to protect and preserve artworks long into the future.
Another very important function of framing is to present the artwork in an aesthetically appropriate and pleasing manner. Our many years of design experience make this a very strong aspect of our work.
Frames & Framing
There are a great many types of artworks which can be framed at Storey Framing. Although most of what we do is works of art on paper, such as drawings, prints, watercolors, and photographs, we also frame a great number of paintings on canvas or panels, historical or family documents, fabric art, and scrolls. We frame tiles and many other objects. Over the years we have framed antique horse stirrups, bridles, fishing lures, flute collections, antique rifles, powder horns, musket balls, and carved or cast reliefs.
- children's artwork
- objects of all kinds
There are many styles of frames available, from simple hand finished hardwood frames of oak, cherry, maple, and walnut, to reproduction antique frames in many finishes, including 23 karat, 18 karat, and 12 karat (white) gold, stained woods, plain or carved. In addition, there are innumerable prefinished mouldings available in all shapes and sizes. We also have metal sectional frames and welded frames of brass or aluminum. Plexiglas boxes are available for a very contemporary framing look or for vitrines for objects. We can almost always find an appropriate frame in which to present and preserve works of art. Until the pandemic numbers improve, we are not accepting any new work in person. If you would like to drop work off at the shop, we will design by email, text, phone, and photographs. We have been doing quite a lot of this kind of designing, and it seems to work well. If you are interested in doing this, call the shop at 510-524-3422 or text me at 510-872-0533 to make an appointment to drop off the work.
If you would like to pick up completed work, call or text to make an appointment for pickup. Please leave your name.
I hope this difficult time ends before too long and we can get back to a more normal way of doing business.
